This week's focus: Writing
Please continue to read with your child daily.
If you have any other questions, please let me know. What a busy day it has been here at school! We are finally into our full day of routines, lessons and assignments. These kids are working hard!
OPEN HOUSE (parent information night) is Today. It begins (with PTA information first) begins at 6:00. Teacher information begins at 6:15 for session one. The second sessions begins at 6:45. You only need to attend one session. This is for parents only. If you are not able to make it, please let me know and I will get the information to you! Also, if you have multiples, the information given in each first grade classroom will be the same, however, you are welcome to attend both sessions if you’d like. WEATHER: We are keeping an eye on this week’s weather and I will update you if/when I hear anything new. I will contact you all through this Class Dojo messaging system & the school will work with recorded phone messages (just like a snow day). This week we are learning about: Writing: Telling personal narratives with a beginning, middle and end. Reading: Learning good habits of first grade readers: taking a picture walk/sneak peak of books before we read them, building our reading stamina and reading ‘good fit’ books. Letterland: We are focusing on Unit 1. (Words ending with -at; -ad; -ap) Spelling words: cat, nap, mad, hat, sat, Dad, lap, had, at, map Tricky words: the, on, is, a, my Math: We are continuing to collect, represent and analyze data. We will take a quick assessment tomorrow to check in and see how the children are doing independently. Based off their answers we will be able to go back and ‘reteach’ the skills that they still need support on. We are also working on learning how to represent numbers in a variety of ways (tens frame, tally marks, number line). Social Studies: We are learning how to be good citizens and the rules of our home, school and community. |
